Aloha! Welcome
to the official St. Louis Class of '70 website! The
website was designed to communicate our various class
reunion
activities. With the many photos, it provides a nostalgic
look into the past and the present. Our activities continue
forging the bond that is unique to the Class
of '70. Be sure to check the website periodically as
it will be updated from time to time.
We celebrated our 35th Class Reunion with a slate of
activities. Chicken Madness co-chaired by Calvin Say
and George Lindsey on April 2nd continued the class effort
to raise $50,000 for the St. Louis Education Foundation.
The thought was, why wait until our 50th Reunion to make
this traditional gift? Let's do it now, a little at a
time! Back in 2000, we donated $7000. to the Foundation.
This year, we presented a check for $5000. to Father
Allen DeLong, Headmaster of St. Louis on behalf of the
Foundation. Eighty-five classmates participated by either
purchasing tickets, and/or coming out to lend a helping
hand. More than raising funds, the event was a great
fellowship gathering. Everyone had fun! Check out the
photos!
We celebrated Stag Night at Natsunoya Tea House on May
21st. Twenty-eight classmates dined on a bountiful Japanese
buffet. It was a BYOB evening! Greg Ah Yat and George
Lindsey played guitar and serenaded the evening! Oh what
fun we had!
The first Annual SLH Class of '70 Golf Championship chaired
by Manny Dayao was held at Leilehua on July 29th. The
Perpetual Speaker's Trophy (in honor of Speaker Calvin
Say) for "low gross" went to Dr. Don Harada.
The Perpetual President's Trophy (in honor of yours truly)
for "low net" went to Kimo Fuller. Needless
to say, this was such a successful event that Pat Lee
and Don Harada will make it more than an annual event.
Plans
are under way for monthly golf outings.
The Class of '70 Class Reunion Gala Banquet chaired by
Russ Takata was held at the Renaissance Ilikai Hotel
on July 30th. Eighty-six individuals participated in
an evening of fun, food, and entertainment. Mahalo to
our classmates who made the extra effort to attend -
- Randy Awo (Maui), Milton Guerrero (Bothell, WA), Greg
Ho (New York, NY), Melvin "Java" Javonillo
(Castro Valley, CA), Aaron Kakinami (Kauai), John O'Connor
(Marietta, GA), Garret Wong (Anchorage, AL), Thomas Yano
(Kauai) and even Harvey Nobriga (Haleiwa, HI). Chicken-skin
event of the evening had to be Calvin Say and others
leading everyone in an acapella rendition of our Alma
Mater.
All of these events didn't just happen. It took the countless
efforts of your Planning Committee meeting monthly at
the Alumni Clubhouse (over beer & pupus of course).
In addition, many classmates came forward with generous
monetary donations, door prize items, and more importantly
their sincere participation with the various events.
Mahalo to everyone!
We don't have a corner on ideas, so share your ideas
and join us at the next planning committee meeting, which
will be posted on this website, as we prepare for the
40th Class Reunion in 2010!
